Novel biobased formulations for CIRCULAR Construction
CIRCULAR-C is a programm funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe and develops a new generation of circular, sustainable, and biobased adhesives, coatings, and functionalised fibres. By creating novel biobased formulations for construction materials and introducing digital product passports, the project paves the way for recyclable, transparent, and safe solutions in Europe’s built environment.
The project covers the entire value chain:
Generation
Sustainable feedstock selection and biorefining into key platform chemicals and tailored lignin.
Formulation
Development of novel fibres, adhesives, nanocellulose, and bio based coatings for construction applications.
(Re)Assembly
Integration of CIRCULAR-C materials in flooring, furniture, and insulation panels, including ligninbased insulating foams.
Disassembly & Recyclability
Smart design for circular use, enabling recovery, recycling, and secondary markets.
Production Information Systems
Digital tools for product passports and data carriers to ensure transparency across the lifecycle.
